I normally approach the students on a more personal level to get to know their interests and identify the gaps in their learning methods. I am committed to strive to make lessons more interesting for the students by creating analogy from daily life. If there is an involvement of more difficult concepts, I will occasionally set aside time to constantly test them to help them associate and retain memory better. Almost all my students demonstrated improvements in their studies. I have a few students who had improved from mediocre to top 10% in their class for their O level exams. Having taught many students from Sec 3-4, I realised the developmental phase of each student is different. For example, a lower secondary student may be more motivated and matured when compared to an upper secondary student. Nevertheless, my goal has always been to assist all my students to achieve their academic and non-academic targets.
Current Biology teacher at Queensway Secondary School, with more than 15 years of experience. Every student whom I have taught improved in their studies by at least 1 grade and built their self-confidence. I have also taught students who were very weak and had a disinterest in science. These experiences are especially rewarding for me because not only do they become confident students in the subject and also grew to appreciate it as learners.
