Over the past 6 years, I have accumulated extensive 1-to-1 teaching experience across English, Literature, and humanities-related subjects, working with students from a wide range of academic backgrounds and learning abilities. I previously taught at MathVision Enrichment Centre for 2 years, where I worked closely with students from different levels and academic streams before deciding to pursue a long-term career in education with the Ministry of Education. I am currently awaiting the commencement of my formal MOE training in June. Throughout my teaching journey, I have taught multiple graduating batches and am familiar with a variety of syllabuses, including local Singapore syllabuses as well as GCSE, IGCSE, and Edexcel curricula. This has allowed me to develop a strong understanding of differing examination requirements, writing expectations, and literary analysis approaches across educational systems. I am particularly confident in teaching Literature, where I place strong emphasis on close reading, textual analysis, argument-building, and helping students understand how literary techniques create meaning and emotional impact. I am comfortable teaching all major forms of literature, including poetry, prose, drama, and non-fiction texts, and I draw from a broad knowledge of literary works across different historical periods, political contexts, and literary movements to deepen students’ understanding of texts.
For General Paper and English, I focus heavily on helping students move beyond memorisation-based learning. Instead of relying purely on pre-packaged examples, I encourage students to engage critically with current affairs, theories, and broader socio-political ideas so that they can develop more mature, nuanced, and intellectually confident arguments. My lessons are highly structured yet adaptable, balancing academic rigour with approachability and encouragement. In addition, I have experience teaching students with different learning needs, including students with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). These experiences have taught me the importance of patience, adaptability, and personalised teaching strategies. I place strong emphasis on understanding how each student learns best, whether that means adjusting pacing, simplifying complex concepts, incorporating visual learning techniques, or building confidence gradually through guided practice. Beyond academic improvement, I also value mentorship and long-term student growth. Many of my students continue to keep in contact with me even after completing their examinations, often seeking advice regarding subject choices, university pathways, and future educational goals. I believe effective teaching goes beyond grades — it is also about building confidence, independence, and a genuine love for learning.
I attained a first class honours (with dean's list in year 2024) under my Bachelor's programme (English Literature with a minor in English). A for both General Paper and Literature and A for English and Pure Literature in Kranji Secondary School as well.
